TRIANGLE ROCK PROJECT
The TRIANGLE ROCK project is set up with the intention to connect different
rural locations with art organizations throughout the entire Europe for a long
period. As the Finnish initiator AREFS is the responsible organization with the
experience and expertise to work in an international network and to guarantee a
high level of quality.
AREFS taide ja kulttuuri ry has in mind the following STEPS for initiating, researching, establishing and executing the innovative
international collaboration project TRIANGLE ROCK.
STEP 1. formulating the main objectives of the innovative TRIANGLE ROCK PROGRAM.
STEP 2. executing a pre-project to clarify the conditions and
content for completing the larger
project or final development project.
STEP 3. executing a development project with international partners,
international and regional artists and local organizations during 2-3 years.
STEP 4. a structural international art program embedded in the local society
that contributes to authentic rural awareness and identity in European
perspective.
STEP 1 MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE INNOVATIVE TRIANGLE ROCK PROGRAM
-The final aim of TRIANGLE ROCK is to create a permanent network to investigate
and exchange, collaborate and produce international multidisciplinary dialogue
in new forms of art production on exceptional rural rock locations.
-The final project TRIANGLE ROCK will add specific cultural and artistic values to the different
locations and will initiate an inviting environment for innovative and
sustainable development based on the existing cultural, historical and artistic qualities of these locations.
-In the local education program the TRIANGLE ROCK project will be an important
link between traditional and contemporary culture. It will develop visions and
tools for young people to activate and vitalize the rural roots in a changing
community.
STEP 2. MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE PRE-PROJECT TRIANGLE ROCK
-Research to clarify the conditions,
content, international network and local partners for completing the final development project.
-Preparing co-operation
and set up a program with art institutes and organizations at site specific, rural rock environs in different
European countries like Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Ireland and others. The evolving project
takes in account the diversity of rural areas and landscapes, rich local
identities and the increasing value society puts on a high-quality natural
environment.
-Preparing co-operation and set up a program with local institutes and
organizations in the field of education, youth, history, traditional culture,
arts & crafts, architecture, agriculture and forestry.
GUIDELINES FOR RESEARCH AND PREPARATION IN THE PRE-PROJECT
The partners have to be existing and equipped residencies, small and personal,
located in ecological sensitive environments, with original solutions for art
production and a close relationship with the local society.
It is our experience that a physically visit is an important condition for the
final selection of the partners. Every organization in art has a different
starting point, different objectives, and a different approach, which only can
be seen and proved on location.
The artist co-operation in the final TRIANGLE ROCK program has to be based on
practical working with the same intention under similar conditions with
different specifics.
The local society will be active involved in the final TRIANGLE ROCK program
through special activities and presentations by the visiting artists. The
intensive contacts are important sources for cross-border experiences.
The cultural diversity and the specific areas of the different locations are the
sources for the collaboration of the artists. Their art and activities will
contribute to widen local views and give new perspective to the rural
circumstances in relation to the European identity.
STEP 3. MAIN OBJECTIVES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
-Creating a permanent network to investigate
and exchange, collaborate and produce international multidisciplinary dialogue
in new forms of art production on exceptional rural rock locations.
-Adding specific cultural and artistic values to the different
local communities and initiate an inviting environment for innovative and
sustainable development based on the existing qualities of these locations.
-A creative link between traditional and contemporary culture in the local
education program to develop visions and tools for young people to activate and
vitalize the authentic rural roots in a changing community.
-A structural contribution to the positive image and self-awareness of the local
population by their personal involvement in the TRIANGLE ROCK PROGRAM.
STEP 4. MAIN OBJECTIVES FOR A STRUCTURAL INTERNATIONAL ART PROGRAM
Embedding of the development project in the local society to contribute to authentic rural awareness and identity in European
perspective.
MEANING OF CULTURE
A region with a high cultural standard is more attractive for a high educated
and creative population to move to it. The presence of a high educated and
creative population has a positive influence on the economic growth, because it
is attractive for companies to settle.
Culture is a meeting and breading place for new experiences and ideas, which
brings knowledge accumulation resulting in economic prosperity in the region
where cultural institutes are settled.
Culture is social cohesive and results in more self-respect, more social
contacts and higher feelings of safety in and satisfaction with the living area.
Young people who participate in cultural activities are less criminal.
Cultural education at school and cultural institutes is increasing the education
performances of children. (e.g. intensive culture education reduces the
percentage of students that does not finish their school with 50%)
STATEMENTS
Culture is not a decorative addition in our society but is the base for a vital
and healthy community in which the population is able to realize a higher
standard of living.
The arts are the expression of a vital culture.
Investing in culture is investing in the welfare of the future generations and
demands for courage, strength, vision and long term planning.
It is a sign of high standard to build cultural institutes and to invest in
intensive cultural education.
It is better to build museums, concert halls etc on beforehand in stead of
prisons and penal colonies afterwards.
