The yard around the railway station has been organized by the railway company. After closing the station the typical garden structure has lost its characteristics.

Trees and bushes are growing very fast and when there is no maintenance for decades a building will be covered by it.
In 2011 the railway station hidden by those trees and bushes and like the Sleeping Beauty it was almost impossible to enter the building.

Volunteer help by people from Hiirola village.

In March 2014 the Hiirola community started to reconstruct the old garden structure of the yard around the railway station. Many trees and bushes are cut and the wild growing branches are taken away. The result is an open yard which gives the feeling of new life and an exciting future. It is the beginning of the celebration of the 125 years of the Savo rail.

Big piles of branches and tree trunks are left, but the yard has a much better view.
Once the Hiirola garden has been awarded for its beautiful garden, it will be nice if the surrounding of the railway station can develop a new remarkable view.

In autumn 1987 Hiirola railway station was looking very well. It is our intention to get the building and the environment in good condition. Even this will take many years.
