NATURALLY ART - SYMPOSIUM ART EDUCATION FOR TEACHERS 2015

The third week of May an one week symposium about art education organized by AREFS.
Different workshops in the primary school in Rämälä, the art museum, studio Wäkewä and child art school in Mikkeli, art and teaching experiences in Savonlinna, POAM sculpture Park in Kanganiemi.

HIIROLA - HOMAGE TO KNUT NYLANDER A series of acrylic paintings about the Oulun Radan, the railway station, design of Knut Nylander by the artist Marja de Jong. She works and lives in the old railway station of Hiirola. This series will be part of a special campaign to create a budget from which the arts program in rural schools can continue. Also, the proceeds will benefit the creation of a digital curriculum on the Internet.

SAVON-RADAN train schedule on Saturday 4.10.2014

On Saturday 4.10.2014 the old timer train Lättähattu will drive between Haukivuori and Otava. On different stations are various activities.

SAVON-RADAN ryhmä - SAVON-RATA 125-year - celebration  4.10.2014

In 1889 the first train was passing the different station along the SAVO-line.  In 2014 this will be celebrated with different event during spring, summer and autumn. On different railway station the group is preparing activities fitting to the new content of the stations.
The celebration will take place at Haukivuori, Kalvitsa, Hiirola, Mikkeli (Mannerheim Saloon Wagon) and Otava with the old-timer train Lättähattu, old-timer busses, presentations of local products, special food experiences, activities for children, and music performances.

OPEN DOORS - HIIROLA RAILWAY STATION - 5.10.2013 - 10-15

On Saturday October 5th 2013 it is Kalvitsan päivä and an old train is going from Haukivuori to Mikkeli vv. This train will stop at Hiirola 4 times that day. From 10 to 15 people are welcome to visit the old railway station and to see what kind of activities are developing.
We will serve coffee, have a lottery, inform about our project THIS IS MY BACKYARD and introduce art and culture association AREFS.

TransCultural Exchange CONFERENCE - BOSTON 10.-13.10.2013

The 4th international Artist-in Residence Conference in Boston MA USA is from Thursday October 10th until Sunday October 13th 2013.
AREFS AiR THE NEXT STATION and ART & TECHNOLOGY program are part of presentations.
Marja de Jong represents AREFS in this conference and is also invited by TransCultural Exchange to participate in portfolio views for artists.

TÄMÄ ON MINUN TAKAPIHANI - THIS IS MY BACKYARD

A new art and art education program initiated by AREFS.
TÄMÄ ON MINUN TAKAPIHANI - THIS IS MY BACKYARD is a challenging art and poetry program for children to explore and express, in collaboration with parents, their nature, landscape and environment. Through art and poetry children explore new forms of expression. They experience interaction between art and nature and develop their creative and language skills in a challenging ambiance.
The project is awarded by Etelä-Savon kulttuurirahasto and will start in summer 2013.

NEW ART PROGRAMS FOR ARTISTS

AREFS is developing new and challenging art programs for artists from Finland and abroad. The expertise and network built up in art centre Saksala ArtRadius is the base of the new strategy in AREFS art and culture center. The cooperation with international art organizations and local/regional communities creates new forms of communication and exchange.

AiR - THE NEXT STATION

AREFS taide ja kulttuuri ry is developing the artist-in-residence program THE NEXT STATION in Hiirola, in which artists can participate in the art education project THIS IS OUR NATURE and THIS IS MY BACKYARD in the schools in Haukivuori, Rämälä and Hiirola and is cooperating with the municipality of Olofström (Sweden) in the international art project ART & TECHNOLOGY.

Finnish landscape through the eye of young children, youth and international artists. The art education programs THIS IS OUR NATURE and THIS IS MY BACKYARD are challenging children to express their connection with landscape and nature in rural Finland.

OOn November 10 the book is introduced in Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, Stella shopping mall, Mikkeli.
From November 14 until December 1 2012 art works are exhibited in the main library of Mikkeli.
On December 1 the book is presented on the Christmas Fair in Haukihalli Haukivuori.

AREFS taide ja kulttuuri ry (art and culture association) has started in autumn 2008 and is located in the old railway station in Hiirola.
It is a non-profit association which has a Board. The association organizes and supports art and culture projects, events and activities whereby for each project an appropriate organizational form is determined.
The audiences AREFS is focused on are local society, artists, education, visitors.

The not for profit association is an important contributor to the cultural development of the rural region of Etelä-Savo. Their initiatives are future oriented culture, art and education programs which activate the spirit of the society. These programs contribute to the self awareness of the local rural community.

After the reorganization AREFS will start a new artist-in-residence program THE NEXT STATION.. The association already carried out art education programs in local schools, art events and festivals with the local communities. The association cooperates with the Dutch Foundation AllaprimA and different other (international) organizations.

The association does not own real property. If necessary, space and facilities required by the association can be acquired or rented.

AREFS taide ja kulttuuri ry elävöittää ja aktivoi Haukivuoren ja lähialueen asukkaiden kulttuuriharrastusta.

Yhdistyksen tarkoituksena on edistää ja kehittää paikallisesti taiteen ja kulttuurin harrastusta ja taidekasvatusta Mikkelin alueella luoden myös kansainvälisiä yhteyksiä.
